As we entered Merrill Gardens, we were greeted by the sounds of a pianist and violinist, both residents, harmonizing in the next room. Fellow residents circled the energetic duo as they rehearsed for an upcoming performance at a local senior center. The interior is an attractive combination of dark wood pieces, upholstered furnishings and wall-to-wall carpeting. Both the interior and exterior exhibit a modern look.Residents’ rooms receive ample natural light from oversized windows or bright balconies. Some feature lovely hillside views of San Ramon. The dining area is a spacious setting of linen-dressed tables and fresh flowers. Although everyone loves the annual organized parties, the residents truly adore the home’s “anytime dining” program that emphasizes their autonomy! The selections, which might include a deli salad platter, enchiladas or a poultry dish, tempt even the most finicky of eaters. An activity area, music room, library and computer room are housed in different areas of the facility. Floor-to-ceiling windows create a cheery environment, supplemented by soft artificial lighting.Merrill Gardens’ staff fosters an active and adept community; one of the most popular areas in the house is the computer room. Each of the computers is installed with a program that makes the internet user-friendly for seniors. Each resident receives a personal email address. An enthusiastic group was stationed here as we toured the facility. “Joyrides” are another beloved activity, one which enables residents to explore the city of San Ramon together.
